Top 10: Rolling Stones albums

The Rolling Stones celebrated the 50th anniversary of their first official gig last week, prompting me to write this Sunday column about how the album 'Steel Wheels' saved the group.

I wrote while "Steel Wheels" might be the most important LP in regard to the group's survival, the Stones have issued at least a dozen better studio albums over the years.

Here are my favorites.

10. "Between the Buttons" (1967)
Key tracks: "Let's Spend the Night Together," "Connection," "Ruby Tuesday"

Bonus: "'Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!' The Rolling Stones in Concert" (1970)  is my favorite official live Stones album (key tracks: "Stray Cat Blues," "Jumpin' Jack Flash,""Carol.") Actually, it's the only live Stones album really worth owning. Except, it's not really live. Lots of overdubs. That's why I prefer the bootlegs, especially from that killer 1969 tour.
